A girl was walking on the beach upon which thousands of starfish had been washed ashore. When she came to each starfish, she would pick it up, and throw it back into the ocean.
She had been doing this for some time when a man approached her and said, “Why are you doing this? Look at this beach! You can’t save all these starfish. You can’t begin to make a difference!”
She picked up another starfish, and hurled into the ocean. Then replied to the man,
“I made a difference for that one!” Inspired, the man joined the girl in throwing starfish back into the ocean. Soon others joined, and thousands of starfish were saved.
When I was a young child, my mother was about to eat a tomato. When she bit into it, the tomato squirted juice all over. She squealed and in response, I said, “What did you expect, cheese?”
She smiled and laughed, and that was my first attempt at humor. I think making a person smile started from the goodness I felt in making her smile. I think about this today.
He had wonderful sense of humor and an infectious smile. When he met somebody, or even when he just walked into a room, people saw him and smiled. He was a delight.
